Professor and Head Department of Food Science

Dr. Suzanne Nielsen is Professor and Department Head in the Department of Food Science at Purdue University.  Prior to becoming Department Head at Purdue University in 2003, she had an active research program in the area of protein chemistry, publishing over 90 journal articles and serving as major professor for 30 graduate students.  Dr. Nielsen has taught Food Science classes for 28 years, and has edited four editions of a Food Analysis textbook.  She has received teaching and achievement awards from the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), and been very active on committee within the organization.  She chaired for four years the Food Chemicals Codex Committee of the National Academy of Sciences.  She has received alumni awards from the University of Nebraska and the University of Minnesota.  Dr. Nielsen serves as Co-Director of the International Food Technology Center (IFTC) housed in the Department of Food Science at Purdue, in part because of her previous work on US AID funded projects in Central America and Africa.
