There are 150,000 more people in the world today than yesterday. Another 150,000 will arrive tomorrow, and another 150,000 the day after that. With such significant increases in our global population, we must find solutions to ensure the world's growing population has enough nutritious food.

At DuPont, we believe food security exists when all people at all times have physical, social, and economic access to sufficient and nutritious food that meets their dietary need and food preferences for a healthy and active life.

In February 2012, DuPont launched food goals to underscore our commitment to Food Security focused on:

• Engaging and Educating Youth

• Improving Rural Communities.

As a part of this commitment to food security, DuPont commissioned the development of a comprehensive measurement tool that addresses the need for specific metrics to illustrate what food security looks like at the local level and assess vulnerabilities country by country. The Global Food Security Index, developed by the Economist Intelligence Unit, looks at the root causes of hunger. Our hope is that the comprehensive and unique information available in this tool will help inform decision making that leads to sustainable solutions.
