Formed as a non-profit organization in August 2001, Blessman Ministries, Inc. (BMI), was founded by Dr. Jim & Beth Blessman. Jim, a board certified family physician and pain specialist, and his wife lead the ministry. They serve orphans/vulnerable children and assist communities devastated by HIV/Aids in South Africa through:

* Feeding the Hungry & Orphan Care Program:
Through donor contributions and our network of feeding centers, we are currently feeding
7,000 HIV/AIDS orphans and at-risk children each day with rice packets supplied from
Meals from the Heartland. In twelve years we have fed over 1,000,000 orphaned and vulnerable children.

*Daily Educational Assistance Program:
Career Path Training – there is an emphasis on academic support in English, Math, Science, and homework assistance. Implementation of a computer lab has allowed for children to learn from a technological aspect for future employment.
Athletic Growth - Formation of soccer teams with donations from Iowa based organizations, The Des Moines Menace (www.menacesoccer.com) and soccer ball donations from Kum & Go (www.kumandgo.com)
HIV/AIDS - Prevention education with HIV/AIDS Cube(www.hivaidscube.org.za)
Biblical Based Training - Peace, conflict prevention, and resolution with The Book of Hope (onehope.net)

*Optical Care:
Medical Care in the form of eyeglass outreaches, monitor environmental surroundings of children, Des Moines University student rotations, partnership with UNAIDS in HIV/AIDS education. To date has supplied 30,000 pairs of FREE eyeglasses to children and adults in impoverished communities.

*Farming Micro-Enterprise:
Successfully manages plot of land for harvesting vegetables and maize with an emphasis on job creation and education on nutritional long term sustainability. Currently provides additional food source with chickens and fish farming. Future vision is to obtain more farm land to allow for expansion of feeding program and to implement green houses both in communities and on current farmland for year round vegetables.

*Water Well project:
Future vision water well project will depend on grant monies as appropriated to include two separate Wards totaling 20 villages and incorporating 7 schools to drill water wells that lack water, or clean water for consumption.

*Job Creation:
Education and employment with building construction, sewing, welding, and farming.
